David and Victoria Beckham have recently made the announcement that they are going to be leaving the United Kingdom permanently in favour of Los Angeles. They are also reportedly selling their homes in France in addition to their £18 million UK property.

A source close to the couple has recently commented, “They have been wanting to sell their home for some time now. They were nervous about putting the house up for sale when the property market was in a slump and they just recently made the decision that the time for the sale was right.

It is still the case that they have lost money on the property because they conducted a great deal of renovations but I don’t think money is something they are too concerned about.”

They purchased the home, which is located in Hertfordshire, in 1999 for a reported £2.5 million. However, in this time they’ve spent over £18 million on renovations. The home now includes a petting zoo, gym, studio, swimming pools as well as tennis courts. It has also been reported that Victoria Beckham intends to buy an apartment in London to act as a base for when she is in the city for work.

David Beckham’s Olympic dream Despite being 36 years old, David Beckham still wants to play for his country in the Olympic Games which are taking place next year. The player has said that he still has the desire and determination to play and  has said that competing in the Olympic Games is a key goal in his career.

The football tournament that takes place at the Olympic Games is primarily for people under the age of 23, however three players who are older than this are allowed to compete. Stuart Pearce is organising the squad for the Olympic Games and it seems as if he is considering Beckham for the squad.

Beckham has commented, “It would be a great honour to be chosen to play for my country and despite people saying that I am too old, I do still play for the country and have been doing so for a long time. I’m still fit and enjoy playing so I’m not done yet.”

Some people have criticised David Beckham saying that he lacks pace and his playing is predictable, often this criticism comes not because of his age but because of his style of playing. However Mr Beckham seems unaffected by those people who want him to leave football behind.

Right now, Beckham is dedicated to helping his current team, LA Galaxy win the trophy in the Major Soccer League which is currently taking place in the United States. Several clubs in the UK have also shown an interest in recruiting him into their current squad, he has said, “To be considered for such great teams at this late stage in my career is a great honour.”

Beckham has not said much about his plans for after he retires, but many expect that he would take a franchise share in the American league.

David Beckham hopeful for London World Cup David Beckham says he believes that the FIFA executive committee will base their decision on the World Cup bids on the merits.  He made these remarks after suggestions that perhaps the committee would hold a grudge against England for the media exposure of the two corrupted officials found out earlier in the process.

He says that the members can be trusted because they are footballers and, in the end, they will do what is best for football.  Of course, being a member of the final bidding presentation, he believes that was is best for football is to hold the 2018 World Cup here in England.

To that end, he, Prince William, and Prime Minister David Cameron have been pressing hard for England’s bid.  Beckham has met in private with some of the executive committee members, but rather not say just who.  Prince William has also been lobbying members and taking meetings.

It is felt that Spain/Portugal and Russia may have an edge in the bidding war, but Beckham says such things are merely speculation and no one can know anything for certain until the decision is made.

Beckham compares his effort with the bidding team to similar challenges in his sports career.  He says that it is a tough fight against some strong competition, but the key is to keep to your strengths.

He says that when it comes time to act for your country, you must give all you possibly can and trust that you have done your best.

David Beckham still biggest celeb in UK Although David Beckham may no longer play England football, he was still named the most powerful celebrity in the UK according to Cebra and Milward Brown celebrity research.  The research group asked 2,000 consumers in the UK, 100 brands, and 100 celebrities to identify the most powerful celebrity and brand partnership in an effort to explore who has the best potential in the marketplace.

Beckham moved up two spots to take over the number one ranking beating out Kylie Minogue from her former top position which she held tight since the monthly research was started.

Media Development Director for Milward Brown Europe, Mark Husak, stated that even though Beckham now lives in the USA he is an ambassador for football and England which has kept him firmly affixed in the hearts of Brit’s.  Husak added that even though Beckham was not a part of the World Cup this past year, he was still a powerful liaison between the players and management.

Beckham shun brilliantly through all of the measures of power of a celebrity including as a positive role model, likeability, buzz, and familiarity.  Husak noted that his sensible and outgoing calm persona combed with his great refined image helped to break down many male stereotypes about grooming and sophistication which would make him a great potential match for brands such as Starbucks, Nivea, and Avon.

Sitting below Beckham on the chart was Ant & Dec followed by Kylie Minogue in third, Will Smith in fourth, and Lewis Hamilton in fifth place.   The only wag to make the list was Cheryl Cole in eighth place.

The Football Rich List has been through a few changes this year and some millionaires and billionaires have seen better times.  Still, it is hard to cry for Manchester City’s owner who climbs from number two last year to number one, a Sheikh worth more than 20 billion pounds, who unseated last year’s number one richest, Lakshmi Mittal of QPR.  Mittal’s worth is, unfortunately, down to a paltry 17 billion pounds.

Let’s save our tears for someone more deserving like Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea who slid to number four with a fortune at 7.4 billion pounds as opposed to last year’s 7.8 billion, shall we.

While David Beckham is still atop the rich players list, he could use a handkerchief after seeing his fortune slip from around 125 million pounds to 100 million pounds.  Wayne Rooney’s troubles have appeared to take a bite from his wallet, as his wealth staggers down from 37 million pounds last year to only £25 million this year.

The richest manager is Fabio Capello who climbed from £30 million last year to 36 million this year, leaving Roy Keane at number two with £28 million and Sir Alex Ferguson number three with £26 million.
